Armonica
Armonica

One of the first things you notice about jazz vocalist Armonica, is her presence.  In the fullest sense of the word she is there - completely in the song and in the moment.  And you can't help but be right there with her.  Nationally known pianist, Tom Grant, says that's a rare quality.  "It's striking how forcefully she comes across when you watch her live - she's got a powerful stage presence."

Armonica came to the Northwest jazz scene from Alaska where she earned recognition as a top-rated female vocalist (Daily News Minor).  It was at one of Portland's legendary Jazz Jam Sessions that she met nationally known percussionist Ron Steen and joined his band.  She now performs in jazz venues throughout the Northwest with musicians including Russell Malone, Dan Faehnle and Ben Wolfe, all of whom have been members of Diana Krall's band.  She also works with nationally and internationally renowned artists such as John Stowell, Jessica Williams, George Mitchell, Dan Balmer, and Tom Grant.  Drummer Ron Steen says her "passionate approach" and "fresh vocal style" set her apart from other jazz interpreters in the area.

Jazz lovers will appreciate what Steen calls her "sultry voice, true jazz sensibilities and well-developed improvisational skills."  Often likened to Sarah Vaughn or Carmen McCrae, Armonica nevertheless has her own take on a repertoire that includes a vast array of jazz favorites and lesser-known gems.  She has built a loyal following of music lovers at top area jazz venues across the great Northwest.  Armonica has lead jazz workshops and performed at many public and private events throughout the region.  Her debut CD, From Me To You, displays her range and passion for what she calls her "home in jazz."
